FAQ - DAC equipped Amplifiers

Q. What is the 'DAC' option for the Cyrus integrated amplifier series?
A. The 'DAC' is an add on module for the integrated series which adds a high performance DAC, comprising of 5 additional inputs. 2 Coaxial RCA, 2 Optical Toslink and 1 x USB (Type B).

Q. What is the 'Qx' option for the Cyrus  integrated amplifier series?
A. The 'Qx' option upgrades an existing DAC (not 6 series) with a reference quality, 24/192 DAC which upgrades the performance on all 5 inputs with technology taken directly from the DACX+ for the highest quality sonic upgrade to all digital inputs, including USB.

Q. What can I connect to the USB input?
A. The USB input on the DAC enabled series is a 'slave' input. This effectively means you can only connect a computer which sees it as a USB soundcard. This means that the amplifier takes over all sound duties from a computer, so everything you would normally hear on your computer loudspeakers is re-routed through the Cyrus integrated amplifier. This is not designed for iPod, USB memory sticks etc.

Q. Can I connect my DVD or BluRay player to the DAC enabled product?
A. You can connect a DVD or BluRay player if they have either an optical or coaxial digital output. You will need to make sure that they are set up to run in 'stereo' mode. A 5.1 signal will not be decoded by the integrated amplifier. Please consult the user guide of your product to find out how to convert the signal into 2-channel stereo.

Q. What bit-rate does the DAC support?
A. Both the 'DAC' and 'Qx' DAC's support stereo signals up to 192khz on the coaxial and optical inputs. USB will accept a maximum of 48khz. The Qx DAC will upsample any signal to 192khz for maximum sound quality.

Q. Can I connect my Sky box / PVR?
A. As long as your product has a digital output, (SKY+ and SKYHD do) then you can send this signal to the product. You may have to enable this in the user settings, and make sure it is set to stereo output only, not 5.1

Q. Can I listen to HD audio on the USB input?
A. Because the USB input only supports 48khz, you will not get the full benefits of a 96/176/192khz recording. Where possible use the coaxial or optical input for best results.

Q. Can I integrate my XP amplifier in my home cinema?
A. If you label an input 'AV DIRECT' this will bypass the volume control so you can connect an AV product using front L+R pre outputs into the appropriate input. This will cancel out the volume operation of the Cyrus integrated amplifier so you can use it with a home cinema system. Please note that this input should only ever be used with an AV Processor with volume control!

Q.Too many inputs, too little time?
A. Did you know that labelling your inputs 'No Source' will skip it when scrolling?

Q. Pressing 'CD' on the remote control does nothing...
A. The 'CD' button will only work (along with the TU/DAB and AV) when an input has been labelled appropriately e.g. 'CD'. You can do this for any of the 11 inputs. E.g. COAX 1 labelled CD will give you automatic selection of this input when pressing 'CD'.

Q. Analogue Gain
A. If you wish to equalise the volume level between analogue inputs you can make adjustments of + / - 10db in the setup menu.

Q. Zone 2
A. The selectable Zone 2 function allows a source to be routed externally from the XP amplifier. The signal is a line level output for use in another amplifier or source with analogue input. You can enable this to be fixed to a specific source, or have the Zone 2 output match the current source selection on the amplifier.

Q. I am having difficulty reading the screen
A. The menu can be customised to view either both volume and input name, large volume or large source name display. This can easily be chosen in the setup menu.
