Adding a new AV Master to your stereo system brings the latest digital surround sound technology to your home. We have designed the controls so it’s very easy to use, even setup is a simple process due to a wizard on the screen that helps guide you through the setup process.
Designing a system around the new AV Master
There are 3 main ways to build a Master Series system around an AV Master. Because you can switch the 3 internal amps to drive different speaker channels, you can use the AV Master in a number of ways and upgrade later as well.
Here are some examples;
High quality compact system
At its simplest, all you need is a Discmaster and an AV Master for a very compact and high quality music and movie system. The AV Master’s 3 built-in user configurable channels of amplification could power your centre, front left and right speakers to provide a 3 channel system, which can have rear speakers added at a later date if you would like to move up to 5.1 surround sound. (Later this year Cyrus will be launching a set of wireless speakers that would fill this role very easily and discretely.)
Expand an existing stereo system
If you have an existing stereo system (even non Cyrus), you can add the AV Master to upgrade to 5.1 channels. The AV Master’s internal amps run your centre and rear speakers, and your existing system drives the front left and right. If you want a more sophisticated AV experience, then you could upgrade to 7.1 speakers and the internal amps can be re-configured to fit a new power amp or our forthcoming wireless speakers.
The luxury high performance home cinema system
The AV Master is now the centre of the system, with up to 6 sources connected, each sounding better because of our advanced up-sampling circuitry. Advanced systems will typically be specified with more demanding speakers, so the AV Master has outputs for bigger power amplifiers to be connected. Adding larger amps may ultimately replace all the internal amps (you can switch them off) with power amplifiers from the main hi-fi range. The largest systems could include many power amps that will aid dynamics and drama.
The inherent high performance of both the Master Series components means that even our most compact systems impress because they are built to be more than capable in the very largest installations. The upgrade path ensures that your investment is protected and remains valuable for many years to come. Many of our customers start with small hi-fi systems and once they ‘get the bug’, they keep upgrading over years and sometimes even generations!
AV Master 8.0 is a sophisticated, configurable 7.1 channel AV system amplifier. It includes a 7.1 channel preamplifier, up-sampling multi input DAC and 3 channels of user configurable power amplification … all within one of our trademark, half-width, precision die-cast, magnesium alloy chassis. The 3 channels of amplification can be user configured to fit perfectly into whatever system you are running. The beauty of this flexible approach is that you can assign the amplifier channels to fit whatever system design you have today, and they can be reassigned if you choose to upgrade your system tomorrow.
Existing 2 channel Cyrus customers can simply add the AV Master 8.0 to give them a state-of-the-art 5.1 AV system, with the option to upgrade in stages all the way to 7.1. Latest DSP We have incorporated the latest dual core 32bit DSP (the surround sound processing engine) from world leaders in DSP, Cirrus Logic (no relation). This sophisticated new DSP engine and our 2 x up-sampling technology allows us to raise the audio performance of AV to true Cyrus quality standards.
Upgrade other components connected
Another very useful feature is AV Masters ability to upgrade all connected digital sources. It will up-sample the linear PCM audio input from all your other digital equipment such as PVR’s, DAB radio and, of course, DVD soundtracks, upgrading each to Cyrus quality.
Stereo Bypass feature
Because we know the AV Master will be incorporated into some of our most advanced Cyrus audio systems, we have included a Stereo bypass feature that connects the high quality output from, for instance, a CD 8, directly to the power amps. This feature will, we believe, convince many system designers to use the AV Master as a high quality preamp in even the most sophisticated system.
Easy set-up Wizard
The 'easy set-up wizard' makes installation simple by taking you through some straightforward settings that will match your AV Master’s settings to you room. This quick process will allow the AV Master to steer the surround sound around your room much more accurately.
Another essential feature is lip-sync that will prove invaluable if you have a flat panel TV. Many TV’s now include so much processing of the video signal that the picture appears behind the audio. The AV Master has a continuously variable adjustment to match the audio to the picture, thereby correctly synchronising the audio and the picture.
Many other advanced features
Other exciting features include a 12V trigger output for controlling projectors and motorised screens etc, plus the latest AV decoding formats, i.e. Multi-channel decoding systems 2.0 PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS 96/24. 5.1: Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS 96/24, Dolby PLII Movie, Dolby PLII Music, MPEG1 layers I, II & III 6.1: Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES Matrix, DTS-ES Discrete, DTS-ES 96/24 Matrix, Neo:6 Cinema, Neo:6 Music. 7.1: Dolby PLIIx Movie, Dolby PLIIx Music, DSP effects (Theatre, Hall, Live, Chorus)
Because AV Master 8.0 is part of the wide range of Cyrus system components, it can be confidently partnered with any of our acoustically matched power amplifier options.
A message from the R&D lab;
"Films and music have something in common: they can be more than simply light entertainment, they are both capable of creating feelings of excitement or elation, and sometimes great melancholy and, when the two are used together effectively, are a potent catalyst for our emotions. So why is it acceptable to use AV equipment which, while occasionally capable of startling bursts of noise, fails to grip the spirit when playing music? Many of the most poignant moments in any drama are accompanied by skilfully selected pieces of music. For this to have its full emotive effect, surely it makes sense to have them reproduced by equipment designed to do so, with subtlety and verve, rather than give the biggest bang per quid?
There isn’t enough space here to cover all the ease-of-use features. Maybe I’m too close to the coal face and, therefore, understand that these features have not been easy to implement. However, the fact that, as you use the unit, it tries to work out what settings you like for each input under different data streams is, I think, an attractive addition. For instance, many DVD’s are authored badly. The menus and extra features are often in 2 channels to save space and sometimes are an effort, plus the editing engineer may not switch on the surround request flag, so the punter just gets 2 channels."
The same can be true of some satellite outputs I suspect. Our unit will give a default setting that makes sense of this and each input can be changed by the user to have any preference and remember it. For instance, many DTS encoded DVD’s have a Dolby AC2 2 channel menu soundtrack, as Dolby AC3 is compulsory on anything labelled a DVD. However, Neo:6 Cinema is, I suspect, a better choice than the default PLIIx Movie setting.
If a customer wants, inputs will remember they want that on all Dolby 2 channel surround encoded material. The same goes for Stereo Direct, Bass and Treble, PCM decoding, Dolby, DTS and DSP the unit will give sensible decoding on start-up and give options to those that delve, and remember."
Stereo bypass is also worth mentioning specifically because it enables peoples' high quality analogue sources to not be digitized."
