The Cyrus Phono X is a Phono stage developed for the demanding turntable user. Extremely quiet in operation, Phono X will enhance the performance of even the very best cartridges. For many of us digital sources have become so good, that our prized record collections can sound dull and flat by comparison. Phono X will breathe new life into a turntable / cartridge system with its wide dynamic presentation adding back the excitement. The high performance MM/MC preamp uses specially tuned low level signal routing to help achieve this. By removing many of the capacitors on the signal path, and paying careful attention to the power supplies, the Phono X will encourage the rediscovery of your prized record collection and allow vinyl to sound just as good as your CD collection.

The Cyrus Phono X is a state-of-the-art component for phono cartridge amplification. adding valuable performance refinement and making it the perfect partner for the Pre Xvs preamplifier.

• The Phono X includes provision for both MC and MM pickup cartridges, selectable from the front panel. Separate head amplifiers are included for both MM and MC pickups to ensure ultimate noise performance and the best matching for each type of pickup cartridge. Both head amplifiers are fully discrete Cyrus designs.
• For ease of use and convenience to the customer when setting up the Phono X a high quality external MC loading selector is provided on the rear panel. Three resistor settings are available for MC cartridge loading with the additional option of parallel capacitance.
• The Phono X offers a choice of two close tolerance equalisation responses, selectable from the front panel. Traditional ‘RIAA’ or ‘new IEC’ may be chosen.
• At the heart of the Phono X power supply is the ultimate in low leakage transformer technology. The transformer is fully box screened with mu-metal and has the lowest measured leakage noise that Cyrus has ever achieved. This transformer has been specifically designed to minimise hum harmonics that could otherwise be coupled into the low impedance MC input.
• In order to provide a versatile system interface with other Cyrus products, the Phono X includes a small microcomputer. Due to the sensitive nature of the signals processed in the Phono X Cyrus engineers have taken care to provide total isolation of these computer circuits from the main signal processing part through a system of optical connection. This eliminates
• any possibility of HF noise from the digital computer stage being coupled into the sensitive analogue preamplifier.
• Gold shorting plugs are included with the Phono X to terminate the unused input with a short-circuit. This ensures that the unused input will not detect unwanted noise and hum, which could be coupled into the active signal path.
• Non Volatile Memory - For customer convenience front panel settings for input selection and equalisation response are memorised, even when the power is disconnected.
• A natural upgrade path for the Cyrus Phono X owner is the acquisition of an optional PSX-R external DC Power supply. This unique and intelligent component allows the Phono X to tap into its massive reserve of highly regulated DC energy source. When connected to the Phono X, the PSX-R supplies pure DC power to all amplifier stages, further separating signal from control power supplies.
• The unique MC-Bus connectivity of the Phono X is in keeping with the total system approach of the Cyrus range of products. The MC-Bus facility enhances ergonomic operation of the unit in a system context. Total automation of the electronic test phase of Cyrus Phono X is facilitated via the MC-Bus during its manufacturing process, eliminating potential human error.
