Product Overview

The Pre Xvs was specially developed around a new Cyrus circuit incorporating our latest “Virtual Servo” or ‘VS’ preamp. The development of the new Pre Xvs provides many advancements over the previous model such as faster dynamics and larger scale to the acoustic image with a quieter background behind the music (which we describe during our listening tests as the black with the music being the colours painted over the background).

The new Pre Xvs is a specially developed control unit to partner our range of matching mono and stereo power amps. Featuring a huge power supply, finely tuned power regulation stages and our most detailed acoustic circuit tuning, the Pre Xvs manages to combine outstanding performance with simple intuitive operation. Some of the more advanced features are hidden from immediate view. These include our intuitive speed sensing volume knob, individual input sensitivity and a high quality headphone circuit that allows you to leave your headphones permanently connected. This is useful if, like many owners, you want to listen at night, relaxing in a favourite chair.

A no-compromise development process and access to high quality components allowed the Cyrus tuning panel to open up the frequency response. This expands the preamp’s ability to recreate a large sense of scale and ambience, for the most effective system performance to date. Pre X can be further improved by adding a PSX-R to provide a quiet, smooth, regulated power feed to its sensitive circuitry. Offering 6 inputs plus a true tape monitor the Pre Xvs is the natural upgrade to our integrated amps, or indeed, any preamp.

The X-series has been the most demanding product range developed to date by Cyrus. Over many months the team applied their established skills in taking a technically excellent amplifer design, and through incremental listening tests worked to achieve a natural and extended soundstage with outstanding bandwidth. From the inclusion of massive, over-engineered linear power supplies through to the selection of specialist coupling components designed specifically for use in high-end amplifiers, the Pre X/Mono X amplifier system is the first X-series statement from Cyrus. At the heart of the Pre Xvs preamplifier is a new design based around an over-specified power supply with a custom designed 107VA toroidal power transformer and selected reservoir capacitors. The preamplifier electronics are fully solid-state, avoiding any problems of mechanical contact degradation and feature a contactless input switch and a digitally controlled precision volume control. The control system provides full AV system integration with a Cyrus surround decoder such as the AV8.

• An essential part of any preamplifier, the power supply at the heart of the Pre Xvs does not include an electrically noisy switch mode power supply but is traditionally designed using the highest quality components. The total power requirement of the preamplifier will never stress the power supply of the Pre Xvs which has enough capacity in reserve to comfortably feed a medium sized power amplifier!
• Cyrus engineering of straight line, short path design establishes a high-performance circuit for the Pre Xvs to be built on, with the solid-state topology of the Pre Xvs ensuring that there are no switches or other contacts in the signal path to introduce undesirable distortion artefacts which could degrade the signal.  Additionally for the Pre Xvs, a new generation of coupling components designed specifically for high-end audio amplifiers are featured throughout the signal stages of the preamplifier.
• The digitally controlled analogue volume control features laser trimmed resistor networks whose production accuracy allows excellent channel matching - particularly at low volume settings.
• A tape monitor circuit offers the extra facility of full off-tape monitoring for a three-head analogue open-reel tape recorder or cassette deck equipped with separate recording and playback amplifiers.
• A dedicated high current headphone amplifier drives a full size ¼” jack socket located on the rear panel of the unit. A separate front panel control to select headphone listening and mute the loudspeakers allows headphones to be permanently connected to the Pre Xvs. The intelligent control system monitors the connection of headphones to the socket at all times and will restore sound through the loudspeakers if the headphones are disconnected.
• The Pre Xvs is supplied with the AVRS7 remote control which provides intuitive remote control capability for the Pre Xvs and all other products in the Cyrus range. Whatever the mix of Cyrus components, AVRS7 keeps them under control.
