FM7

In spite of the recent explosion in multi-media and audio-visual interests, it is still true to say that radio broadcast continues to offers a great deal of entertainment and pleasure to people. This is a highly interactive median, in that the listener is more intimately involved in and participates mentally in the broadcast program. The FM7 is designed to capture the true spirit of the transmitted material with the least amount of alteration to the original signal.

The sensitive, low distortion front-end design of the FM7 enables this product to enjoy wide dynamic range and highly linear characteristics, reducing intermodulation artefacts that can be harmful down the line in the demodulation process. The generous front-end Power gain assists in achieving low noise operation at low signal levels.

The triple stage IF strip of the Cyrus FM7 is a highly linear design which is substantially responsible for the low distortion behaviour of the tuner as a whole. Complex ground plane design and Power supply topology are key elements in achieving the superior performance of the FM7.

Close tolerance quartz crystal together with a precision phase-locked-loop (PLL) circuitry is designed to enable stable and accurate tuning to the radio station. The centre frequency adjustment of the tuning system is achieved by computer controlled calibration during the manufacturing phase of the FM7 through the MC-Bus.

The instrument level accuracy of the FM7 clearly shows up deficiencies in the absolute centre frequency of some commercial radio station and cable transmissions. The FM7 is designed to deal with this in a most elegant manner, by fine-tuning stations in steps of 10kHz. This totally compensates for any error of absolute nature in the transmission carrier frequency and may of course be memorised by the unit in a preset.

Stereo decoding and output filtering of the FM7 is achieved through a unique blend of both passive and active design. This scheme ensures a more linear phase response and achieves effective rejection of the pilot tone and the sub-band frequencies. This largely accounts for the very natural reproduction quality of this product.

The unique MC-Bus connectivity of the FM7 is in keeping with the total system approach of the Cyrus range of products. This facility enhances ergonomic operation of the unit in a system context. Additionally, the MC-Bus provides a powerful tool to enable full automation of the test, alignment and calibration of the FM7 during its manufacturing process, eliminating potential human error.

The quality lightweight die-cast enclosure of Cyrus FM7 has a myriad of advantages both electrically and mechanically. The non-resonant nature of the alloy minimises microphonic effects, while its non-ferrous composition provides an effective shield from external electromagnetic disturbances. This also eliminates coupling of the power transformer stray magnetic fields to the sensitive audio circuitry.
