Advanced Technology

The Pre₂ DAC delivers surprising audio performance and value because it is based on the advanced preamplifier circuitry from the DAC XP Signature; benefitting from a ‘trickle down’ of our most advanced technology.

Pre Amplifier

The Pre₂ DAC offers a sonic step up in performance from our integrated amplifiers; achieved with its own power supply. The internal power supply provides isolation from the demands of other system elements, making available an additional level of dynamics and resolution.

Integrated DAC

The Pre₂ DAC features a high performance 24/192 DAC bringing optical and coaxial inputs and a driverless USB connection for plug and play connectivity to a PC or Laptop. This DAC can be further upgraded to ‘Qx’ specification bringing in upsampling DAC design from the DAC XP Signature.

Essential Connectivity

Six analogue inputs, a high quality headphone amplifier, Zone 2 and pre amplifier output give the Pre₂ DAC flexibility for connecting a wide variety of audio devices. There is also a PSX-R port on the Pre₂ DAC allowing connectivity of the instant upgrade off-board power-supply.

Advanced Setup

The microprocessor controlled operating system in the Pre₂ DAC allows extensive programming of many functions within the unit. Input naming, differing display readouts and input volume matching across all sources are just some of the possibilities.

Overview

The Pre₂ DAC separates the pre amp into its own chassis and provides a dedicated power supply which means the pre amp can resolve more detail. Complete with a built-in DAC, the pre amp is compatible with a very wide range of sources such as CD players, streamers or your TV digital audio out.

The Pre2 DAC offers a sonic step up in performance from our integrated amplifiers. This is achieved because the pre amplifier circuitry has its own power supply. The internal power supply provides isolation from the demands of other system elements, making available an additional level of dynamics and resolution. The digital section also sounds better for the same reasons, especially when used with the optional Qx card, the audio quality rises further still.

If a PSX-R2 is connected, owners will hear a large jump in performance as the PSX-R2 feeds the pre amp with a highly regulated and super smooth DC feed. The sonic uplift from the PSX-R2 means the close tolerance components in the pre amp can be fully appreciated as they now benefit from the smoother supply.

The Pre2 DAC includes a carefully designed top quality digital section built into the pre amplifier with a Burr Brown 24-bit/192k DAC and a carefully designed power supply. With 5 digital inputs that enable the amplifier to connect and clearly improve the sound of connected digital sources including; your computer, DVD player, TV and many other digital sources. Our premium Qx DAC upgrade is available which takes performance to a higher level again.

The Pre₂ DAC is designed to be partnered with one of our matching power amplifiers such as the X Power, Stereo 200 or Mono X 300 Signature. Build your system with a CD i or CD t and a Stream X Signature or Stream Xa for an exceptional music experience. Add a dedicated power supply such as the PSX-R₂ to further enhance the pre amp’s resolution.

FAQ

Q. What signals can Cyrus DACs accept?
A. Any digital stereo PCM signal up to, and including, 24-bit/192kHz can be used with a Cyrus DAC. In the case of the DAC XP models, these also feature a pair of analogue inputs which will accept any stereo analogue signal.

Q. What is the difference between the DAC X models and the DAC XP models?
A. The DAC X models are our highest performance DACs (Digital to Analogue Converter), and represent our most accomplished DAC technology. These models are capable of taking an input from almost any digital source and enhancing the sound to ensure the best audiophile sound quality is reproduced. The DAC XP range contains exactly the same advanced DAC technology alongside our highest specification pre amplifier, designed in such a way that the two circuits actually complement each other and benefit from the single case. The latest DAC XP Signature is designed to be the ultimate performing control/switching input device of any audiophile hifi system.

Q. What can I connect to the DAC?
A. Our DACs feature six digital inputs (four coaxial, two optical), an optical output, a fixed line output, two pairs of balanced outputs and a PSX-R socket. The DAC XP models feature all of these plus two analogue inputs and two pairs of RCA pre-outputs. Such a wide range of inputs and outputs allow connection of almost any digital or analogue equipment from CD players and televisions, to tuners and phono stages, ensuring the absolute best sonic reproduction from your system.

Q. What does the digital roll off setting do?
A. This setting can be changed to alter the shape of the digital filter used by the DAC, and selecting either fast or slow roll off will alter the sonic characteristics of the digital conversion process. It can be thought of as a very subtle tone control.

Q. Why do Cyrus DACs not feature a USB input?
A. Our range of DACs are designed to offer the highest possible sound quality from your hifi system. Connecting a computer via a USB interface can introduce unwanted noise and signals from a computing product not designed for audiophile music reproduction, and as such this is not the best way to playback your digital music library on your hifi system. Instead, we recommend a streaming media playerconnected to your DAC via a digital input as the best way to reproduce your digital library without compromising on sound quality.
